  AED Defibrillator Technology

The AED (Defibrillator Automatic or Semi-automatic External) are computerized equipment, practical and easy to handle: an effective aid in preventing the onset of death in cases of Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
These devices are able to monitor the heart rhythm of the heart and detect, where there is, a ventricular fibrillation (VF) or Ventricular Tachycardia (TV), by restoring the regular heart rhythm by means of an electric discharge.

AEDs work exactly like traditional defibrillators that are located in public medical institutions (hospitals) and, to date, always a greater number of public access locations are equipped with AEDs to provide an immediate rescue operation in the event of Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
It 'should be noted, however, that the AED can not in any way replace the process of CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).
All people are trained to use the AED necessarily educated in the performance of CPR. In fact, a timely CPR is a critical step in the restoration of blood flow and circulation of oxygen to the body. In these cases the AED guides the operator to correctly perform the sequence of CPR and, at the same time, analyzes the patient's heart rhythm.
Similarly, the RCP can not replace the AED. Studies done show that, even if performed CPR, the rate of survival decreases by 7-10% for every minute of delay before defibrillation is performed.

This is demonstrated by the ERC (European Resuscitation Council) has summarized the essential procedures for rescue in a chart called the chain of life.
The AED is one of the cornerstones of the rings in the chain of life and is, to date, introduced as an official procedure in all first aid courses.
